I live in this weird bubble where I find out about new music about month late and then run around to all my friend’s proclaiming that they have to hear “such and such’s” new album, only to learn that it’s well…. not so new.
When I particularly love an album or musician, I frantically search to hear everything they’ve ever created and put their records on repeat for days, DAYS I tell you. Luckily I live alone or my roomie/in-house lover/cat would be really peeved. Here are five artists that I’m obsessively blasting and I think you should put in your jukebox rotation (if you haven’t already…I’m late as sin)
Jessie J: Who You Are
I’ve waxed poetic about Jessie J. before and guess what? I’m going to do it again! Because I love her that’s why. This British powerhouse has entranced me with her strong vocals, catchy pop lyrics and occasional swearing. Am I the only one who likes when singers curse? Songs like Mama Knows Best and Do it Like a Dude feed your up tempo needs while Casualty of Love just makes my heart melt.
Stylish Thought Rating: Cyndi Lauper for the New Age
Frank Ocean: Basically Everything He Has Out Now
Well what can you say about Frank Ocean that hasn’t already been said? He’s music’s new super talent, he’s working with Beyonce, he’s a the R&B James Taylor (and I love me some Fire & Rain). Normally hype would have me steer clear, but Frank Ocean is deserving of it all. Just one listen to his mixtape The Lonny Breaux collection and you’ll be hooked.
Stylish Thought Rating: Ladies this one right here….is for you!
Lupe Fiasco: Lasers
Dear Lupe: I love you. Let’s run away, get married and have lots of intelligent & highly creative Muslim babies! Signed, your wife Fajr! Endless love aside, Lupe Fiasco is by far one of my favorite rappers. He seamlessly mixes political and social commentary with hot beats. While some downed Lasers as being “watered down” I think it stayed true to his style. But a wife would have her man’s back, right!
Stylish Thought Rating: Listen, but not too close or I’ll cut you
Adele: 21
Rich vocals, a heaping of country-folk and the blues, Adele’s new album is a typical album I would love. She gives me Dolly Parton vibes mixed with the Ronettes. You can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of this girl!
Stylish Thought Rating: Move over Dixie Chicks, Adele’s Not ready to Play Nice
Little Dragon: Little Dragon & Machines
I’ll admit that I am really tardy to the Little Dragon party and I’m playing catch up. The Swedish group is classified as Electronic, but I just classify them as Cool. With a mellow vibe that borders neo soul, Little Dragon is perfect for chill-laxing and I’m amped to get their new album Ritual Union
Stylish Thought Rating: Puts me in the Mood for Music
And because mixtapes are the hot thing in the music biz, I put together a mash-up I like to call
“Stylish Thought’s Songs to Sing Loudly and Obnoxiously To” – Enjoy

I would have to agree about lupe. Great post
About me marrying him or him being a great rapper?! lol
Thanks for the comment!
I have to admit, I’m late on Frank Ocean & Jessie J-I keep reading the raves but I haven’t listened to them yet.
I’ve been on Adele since she came out (right place, right time I guess lol), and I learned about Little Dragon last year. I’m down with Lupe, but not a huge fan. I’ll give him another spin.
Right now, I’m OBSESSED with The Weeknd. They’re so mysterious (IDK if they’re a group, duo. solo act or just a movement) but their album/mixtape came out last month and it’s been on repeat. Coolest thing of all-it’s free! I’m also listening to Mansions on the Moon, Robyn, and I want to get into Lykke Li, and J. Davey, since I’ve heard alot about them as well.
The Weekend… that name is ringing a bell… I will have to check them and Mansions on Moon out. I love Robyn ever since Konchiwa Bitches! Great recs love, thanks!
Great list! I’ve heard so many good things about Jessie J, I need to catch up!
I’ve also been bumping Adele and Lupe Fiasco hard lately. Another album that I’m in love with is Raphael Saadiq’s Stone Rollin, which can sort of be described as a modern throwback. I’ve also been listening to a lot of Lykke Li and TV on the Radio, too.
Yes to Raphael Saadiq! He’s coming to Philly and I’m going to see him, love his brand of vintage soul. Lykke Li is too cute for words!

I had never heard “Little Dragon”, thanks for opening my eyes to a great new sound! Any advice on other records that would fall in the same category?
