On Repeat: Lana Del Rey

December 30, 2011 | by Fajr | Music, Personal Interests | 2 Comments

The new indie music darling on the scene is Lana Del Rey, a retro throwback, gangsta pin-up with raspy, sultry vocals. Born Elizabeth Grant, Lana Del Rey is a singer-songwriter from New York recently signed to Interscope and all over the Internet with the release of two singles. Lana sings about boy troubles in “Video Games” and love in “Blue Jeans” all while rocking floral crowns, three-finger rings, 50′s curls and some serious acrylic nails.

Releasing her debut album in January 2012, Lana’s sound is fused with a Lolita sexuality, her husky tone and  modern camp. I’ve been playing “Video Games” on repeat for the last week and am seriously going to need a “Bad” finger ring.

She is buzzing all over the web. She is definitely fierce and fashion forward! And I haven’t even heard her music yet! smh

I like her music, too. There was some controversy a few months back because she admitted to letting her label/management groom and style her as a mysterious, 60s-type chanteuse.

I don’t see what the big deal is, don’t labels do that sort of thing with most of their artists? The only difference is that she went public with it!
