Heaven Is a Place on Earth

2 Jul

Katy Perry is my alterego.. the Sasha Fierce to my Beyonce. Now I know I’m uber-late, just having watched the California Girls video, but where is this fantasical CandyLand place and how can I book my flight?!? The camp, the kitsch, the peppermint bras! Holy Smokes Batman! I’m in love with every element of this video and I’m working on a D.I.Y. whip cream shooting bra, as I type. Oh just you wait!

Sure the concept has nothing to do with California, but when the video is this fun who cares?!?

How do you feel about California Girls? Katy Perry? Be nice, she is half of me!

I’m not going to lie– I lost all interest in the video at the whipped cream shooting bra. I just felt like…this shit has been done, and it was so sexist in so many ways on so many levels. I really liked the video to that point. (I also wasn’t crazy about the cupcake bra– like, you couldn’t have done it so it wasn’t so obviously emulating naked breasts? Obviously you could have, as the other bras were adorable.)

Those aspects really brought out the feminist in me, and that’s a feeling I like to avoid…

That all being said– her little sparkly cupcake/rainbow dress? GOD where can I get one of those?

This is a feminist worst nightmare, but I loved it. I was lost on how the concept had anything to do with the song but Katy is trashy and campy and for that I love her!

I definitely love her for her campy, playful style too. And while I wasn’t sure what Candyland had to do with California, it’s a cute video. It just really lost me at the end…

Girl, that place is three blocks from my house.

    Ok, it isn’t. LOL.

I’m a California girl and I do not support her video or song! Awful, awful, awful. I also can’t believe that old Snoop Dogg got his gangster behind on this track. :(

I think the charm is just how awful it is. And I agree Snoop will lend himself to anything these days. Have you heard “oh Sookie”
