A Sassy Lady: Tribute to Blanche Devereaux

By now you’ve heard the news that actress Rue McClanahan has passed away from a stroke this morning.  The Golden Girls and Mama’s Family actress was best known for her portrayl of the sassy, sexually liberated Blanche Deveraux on Golden Girls. The tragedy of death aside, this is a really sad time for the portrayl of liberated women in movies and television. Sure we have Samantha, but Blanche was the predecessor. The sassy grandmother figure who would tell you just what perfume to wear to hook a man and just the right words to tell him off..

Sure some of her suitors were “unsavory” characters, but Blanche was always a lady, whether you agreed with her choices or not. Here’s to Blanche, thank you for being a friend. Here are some great Blanche moments.

It’s amazing how well the show has held up…smart and funny!

Ha, just fell across your post and it brought back memories. I had an aunt who was the real version of Blanche. The show made me laugh that much harder because of her. Thanks for bringing back some good memories.
