Book Club: Normal Gets you Nowhere by Kelly Cutrone

August 4, 2011 | by Fajr Muhammad | Books, Empowerment, Personal Interests | 4 Comments

It is a well-documented fact that I love Kelly Cutrone. I would follow her to the Alps and back and sit at her feet while she shares tales from her life. To say that Kelly Cutrone has lived would be an understatement. The woman has been homeless, worked for Atlantic Records as a recording artist, owned a high powered PR firm, failed at PR only to rise again as one of the fashion industry’s top public relations experts. Mother has LIIIIIIIIVVVVVED!

Her first book “If You Have to Cry, Go Outside” was full of no-nonsense advice on finding your career and how to find your passion. “Normal Gets You Nowhere” is also no-nonsense, in your face guide for women on just about everything! From sex to motherhood, from friendships to anti-fur Kelly dishes her opinions; straight no chaser.

Kelly is the epitome of a Stylish Thought woman; not afraid to speak her mind, wears her opinions on her sleeves and loves fashion despite all it’s ludicrousness.  In a book with so many intuitive lessons, here are 1o of Kelly’s powerful mantras from this life changing book.

10 Stylish Thoughts from Normal Gets You Nowhere

1. Less is More

“Whoever said less is more was right. The less bullshit and frivolity you have in your life, the more attention you have to focus on what is really going on”

2.  Good Sex is a Woman’s Basic Human Right

“If you don’t know yourself and what you want, then you have no business being in bed with someone else”

3. Create your own Celebration

“Why have we all been suckered into celebrating holidays that very few of us believe in?”

4. Women are Divine Creatures; Act Like It

“…I believe a little of each of these extraordinary beings lives inside of us, in our own souls — and the time has long since come for us to find and activate it.”

5. Stand for Something

“Doing good is not the exclusive responsibility of cute nonprofit vegan kids. We all have to have a Heart”

6. For Pete’s Sake, Know your Rights

“For the record, the law has nothing to do with the truth”

7. True Friends Stick with you No Matter What

“Most of us are too quick to call people friends… and too quick to write people off forever.”

8. Pursue your Passions, but Keep your Wits

“Doing business with people is no different than moving to a big city.  You can’t just see every man as a potential boyfriend; you also have to see him as someone who could be dangerous to you at night.”

9. Universal Motherhood is more than Giving Birth

“The divine is demanding we become proactive to stop the suffering of humanity”

10. Normal Gets you Nowhere

“If normal gets you nowhere, consciousness will get you fucking everywhere…”

If you haven’t read Normal Gets You Nowhere, get on your hands on this book now! Kelly Cutrone is a spark plug of wisdom, f-bombs and truth! She’s heavy handed but her heart and words are in the right place.

Ever since I watched her show Kell on Earth, I am seriously in love with her! I love her no nonsense attitude and I’ve been meaning to get my hands on both of her books.

“Pursue your passion, but keep your wits” is the truth! You can let your starry eyes see the big picture but your smarts will bring it into realization. (Yet another thing that has to go on my wall!)
