Shoe Lust: An Unrequited Shoe Lust Story

July 19, 2010 | by Fajr | Personal Style, Shoes | 14 Comments

We all have it. The one that got away. The shoe that we lusted, salivated over, pondered on and decided to leave in the store only to have it haunt us, to awake in cold sweats dreaming about the shoe lust that would never be. Shoe lust is a  matter of the heart.  Here’s my harrowing tale of shoe love lost. (Grab your Kleenex, it’s a tearjerker)

That Mary Kate heffer in my shoes (jealous much!)

Scene:

3 years prior:  in my mother’s basement, 1am  surfing raggedy laptop  perusing VictoriaSecret.com. Glancing through the boots selection, typically not crazy over VS’s offering, I see shoe nirvana! A thick black leather boot with a a 5inch wedge, quilted padding and metal harness reminiscent of the the Balenciaga hoof boots. IT was LUST at first sight. The Sam Edelman Zoe boots were only  $99 dollars and I told myself that the next pay day ( a week away) I would come back and capture my heart’s desire. Those shoes would be mine!

Two days after initial sighting: Checking out my favorite blogs, Susie Bubble did her usual outfit posts. Except today, something was different. Upon her feet were my lovers! It was like watching another woman kiss your man (or a man you have a crush on, so not technically your man). I felt a huge gulp in my throat. Rushing back to the Victoria Secret site, my fear was confirmed. They were SOLD OUT!!!

Subsequently, the shoe loves of my life went viral. Every blogger and their mom had a pair! Hell, Mary Kate & Ashley were rocking them! The price shot up to a ridiculous $345.00, which was a bit too much to pay for true love. I watched the shoes walk out my life and on the feet of every fashion obsessed blogger. It simply wasn’t meant to be. This was truly HEARTBREAK!

Flash forward to last week: I had moved on. The hoof boots were out of my reach and I had accepted that fact. New shoes came but none could give me the feeling of the Edelmans. In an act that can only be construed as fate (or marketing, whichever you prefer) vintage shop Nasty Gal dropped a little bundle in my email inbox. The Edelman Zoe’s were back! While still $100 dollars more than the original price, I knew this time I shouldn’t pass up a chance at reconnecting with my shoe lover. I’m scooping those babies up as an early birthday present to moi! And I may wear them now, even though it’s 100+ degrees outside! Yeah I’m hype!

The Moral: Let something go and if it comes back to you then its meant to be. Pfffff, yeah right! The moral is to stalk, stalk and stalk some more. Get on every email list and wait patiently. Your shoe loves will come back to you. And if they go out of production, tweet and email harass the designer until they bring them back. We’re talking true love here!

Have you ever had an unrequited shoe lover? How did things pan out?

While I certainly understand the shoe love, and I’m very happy for you (though I am sorry you’re paying $100 more for them), I just don’t get the deal with that boot. Is there something wrong with me?

Vee, no there’s nothing wrong with you! However, there may be something wrong with me since I’m willing to pay 100 bucks more and can’t let go of a shoe I saw over 3 years ago! You be the judge! Thanks for the comment!

lol, I’d love to pipe up hear and be all level headed. But what springs to mind is that I got some lovely red boots on holiday in bulgaria one year, and when they got badly suffed in a club… Well, what choice did I have but to make sure our holiday the next year was right back there in bulgaria?

It’s ok though, we really enjoyed the holiday both times around!

Sounds like an International Shoe Thriller! So glad that you were able to find your shoe love twice!

This post just made me go and search for what I will forever call the “raspberry cheesecake” shoes. They are YSL from 2003/2004, and don’t have raspberries or cheesecake (I think my husband called them that when I showed him the picture, and it stuck).

Here they are. They are not this ridiculous in my memory of them, btw. It doesn’t matter, you’ve reignited my obsession with these damn shoes.
