Motivated Mondays: Dealing with Naysayers

July 23, 2012 | by Fajr Muhammad | Advice, Empowerment, Life | 2 Comments

Ever have an idea that you thought would set you apart from the crowd, but when you excitedly told a friend they proceeded to explain all reasons why it won’t work? It’s like they literally took the air out of your happiness tire!  I hate to tell you this, but you my friend have come face to face with a Naysayer!

A naysayer is a pessimist disguised as a realist and usually wears many different hats. Chances are, if you are moving forward in a positive direction, you will encounter slight roadblocks in the form of a hater, naysayer or negative person. It’s par the course.

The best way to deal with haters in your face is to not expect adoration. When we share our hopes and dreams we tend to expect that everyone will be glowing fans and super supportive. But that’s not always the case.

To help yourself with the disappointment it’s sometimes best not to expect support. Not everyone will see what you see, nor will everyone share your vision and optimism. It will hurt to not have the support you desire but your positive energy must be greater than anyone’s negativity.

Ghandi said “I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet” and neither should you.

Now don’t get me wrong, there is a place for everyone in the world, even naysayers. And the truth is that if a friend is voicing concerns then they may have a point or are trying to prepare you for the worst. However, their thoughts should prepare you and push your forward, not detract and deflate you. If your friend’s feelings are making you second guess your dream than that’s a person you should be careful sharing things with.

Take consideration for their viewpoint, take the pieces that apply to you and keep moving in the direction of your dreams. Allow the negative energy to accelerate and propel you toward determination and dedication. There’s nothing like proving the naysayers wrong. Or like Wendy Williams often says, “The best revenge is success.”

Stay positive, strong, and beautiful!

How do you deal with haters, naysayers and overall negative people?

I have a group of 3-4 people that I may share ideas with. Each are very different and will offer very different opinions. But I know from their personalities, and past advice enlisted from them, what kind of answer they will give. So I don’t usually ask all of them their opinions on the same topic. If I know one has gone through a similar situation and I disliked how they handled the situation I won’t ask them. These 3-4 people are very close to me and would never “flatten my tire of happiness.” I know anything they tell me is out of love and constructively given. In the event I do run into Haters, Naysayers, and overall Negative People, I’ll probably ignore them all together. I have my mind made up already when I ask your opinion anyway lol.

That’s great Erin. It’s good to have close-knit group that you can trust!
