Stylish Thought’s Guide to Having an Unforgettable Summer

June 29, 2011 | by Fajr | Advice, Guides, Life Advice | 7 Comments

If I could bottle any season, I would catch summer in a jar, put the lid on tight and never let it out of my sight. The sunshine, the aroma of burgers on the grill, fresh cut grass and children laughing. The days between June and early September are magical. The weight of winter has been lifted and spring has given birth to summer fun!

Some of the best times of my life were during the summer months. When every day was met with another adventure, road trips were de riguer and temps were hot and the dresses loose. Having an unforgettable summer is all about throwing caution to the wind, letting life take you wherever and enjoying every minute of it!  Add in any number of these great things to do and you have a recipe for a summer for the record books!

Find a Rooftop and Relax

I’m obsessed with roofdecks! Sitting in the sun, feeling the warm breeze and enjoying a pitcher of sangria is a great way unwind after a long day at the office. Add a great girlfriend and some juicy conversation!

Go on a Road Trip

What summer blockbuster would be complete without a road trip?! Hitting the open highway, doing car karaoke and playing the license plate game are a must. Plan your trip with fun in mind and build in plenty of off the course stops! That’s when the real fun begins! Rand McNally and Freetrip.com are great road trip planning sites.

Indulge in a Fresh Fruit Salad

Fruit is nature’s candy and enjoying a fresh fruit salad on a warm day is a delight unlike many. Chock it full of strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, grapes and my favorite cantaloupe and taste the goodness! Simply Scratch has a great recipe (complete with pictures) for a Summer Fruit Salad. Looks delicious.

Get your Groove on at a Music Festival

There’s a reason some of the best concerts take place in the summer. The warm weather brings out all of the music lovers and musicians get to put on stellar shows in the open air. Festival season is upon us and some of the best have yet to come. Check out the awesome festival calendar from Music Festival Junkies. All the shows in one place!

Try a Bold Hairstyle

Put away that tried hairstyle you’ve been rocking all winter. Bust out the bangs, add a dash of color or go curly! Experiment with your look and get a whole new attitude! In the summer I love to wear a big mop of curls. It’s low-maintenance and is a great wash-and-go style.

Read a Life Changing Book or Two

Summer is a time to reflect on life and go back to September a new person. Reading a book that gives you new perspective and revolutionizes your thinking will replenish your mind and how you live going forward. Notable life changing books for me include Little Women, The Great Gatsby, Memoirs of a Geisha, If you have to Cry Go Outside. About.com has a great list of Top Books to Read at the Beach, there’s a list for every genre.

Surrender to Summer Love

Butterflies in your tummy, crushing like a ton of bricks. You’ve been bitten by the love bug and instead of swatting that fly, why not get crushed and have a great time. Maybe this fling won’t last past the start of school or work, but those feelings and butterflies will stay with you forever.

Find the Perfect Sandal

Sandals are the must-have shoe of the season. Gladiator, wedge, espadrilles you name it! A comfortable and stylish sandal will take you through summer from the beach to the barbecue. I’m partial to a high wedge for style and stability. Totally loving these and these, oh and these!

Make New Friends

Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver, the other gold. What’s a summer adventure without meeting new people and building relationships and memories that last long past the heat expiring? With the carefree nature of summer, meeting new people is easy! Be yourself, have a great attitude and strike up conversations!

Stop Obsessing Over your Bikini Body

Nothing strikes fear in the heart of women everywhere like bikini season. Skip all that gym rat hoopla and embrace your body as is. Find a suit that looks great and makes you want to frolic in the ocean. Other women are too worried about their bodies to gawk at your tummy. Trust me! Pin Up Girl Clothing has great retro bikinis that are flattering on most body types.

Lay on a Beach at Sunset

Summer is a time for reflection and what’s more calming than sitting on a quiet beach, the ocean swaying in front of you, alone with your thoughts? The world is a great big place and summer can go at a frenetic pace. Taking the time to bask in the beauty of nature will restore you for the month’s to come.

Summer is upon us! Let’s enjoy the great weather, make the most of our friendships and create lasting memories.

What is your recipe for an unforgettable summer?
