The Girl who wears Socks with Sandals

The trend this summer (online and on the runway) is sending the pedicure to an early grave. Socks with sandals is spreading like wildfire and it’s one of those trends that has its roots in a whole lot of wrong. However, this isn’t your working woman’s tube socks and trainers. Wearing socks with sandals takes a certain chutzpah (and slim legs I might add) to pull off. Just because Alexa Chung (who seems to have struck fashion gold) looks delightfully smart in her anklets and flats doesn’t mean that you should waltz into the office wearing those argyle thigh highs granny gave you last Christmas.
My Foray into Footwear
Before relegating this trend to women with athlete’s foot (or missed salon appointments) I figured I’d delve into my sock drawer to see if this trend has legs (or feet for that matter).
What are your thoughts? Are socks with sandals a step in the right direction?

This was one of the cardinal sins of fashion when I was growing up and I still can’t bring myself to do it…even when it looks adorable.

@Alicia: The image of ladies in tube socks, stockings and running sneaks on their way to work keeps popping up in my head.
