Introducing the Lovely and Ladylike Shen Dove of Shen Dove Style!
DC (by way of Philly) fashion blogger, Shen is a petite powerhouse of style. With a decidedly feminine style, a mammoth collection of skirts and a love of reading and self-improvement, Shen Dove is a young woman with a easy-going spirit and bright and beautiful style.
1. Describe your style in two words?
Classic and feminine
2.What is one item in your wardrobe you couldn’t live without?
I technically couldn’t live without a group of items…skirts! I love skirts of different lengths and wear them several times a week. Skirts easily transition to a variety of occasions and don’t typically require much alteration which is a big personal consideration because of my short stature. Learning to sew is on my “bucket list” because it’s such a useful skill!
3. What is your most memorable fashion moment?
If I had to choose, I would say this dress I wore to a semi formal event my senior year of college was a very memorable fashion moment. The dress was turquoise with a shear brown overlay that had sparkles that shimmered. I know it’s funny to picture a brownish dress as being nice looking, but trust me it was! I also had heeled sandals that had similar tones of turquoise that I loved but killed me feet, I eventually gave them away because of their discomfort level but they looked fly!
4. If you’re style were an animal what animal would it be?
I would say my style would be a cat if it were described as an animal, specifically, a tuxedo cat. I love tuxedo cats because black and white are classic colors that go with everything and they are always dressed up! I’d always prefer to be more dressed-up than too casual for an occasion.
5. Where do you get your stylish wares from (online & brick and mortar)?
I usually don’t have much money to spend at one time, so I do a lot of my shopping at places like Target, H&M, Marshall’s and Forever 21. I’m petite, so I also shop the children’s and junior’s sections of my favorite stores like Zara and Nordstrom’s. As for online stores, I shop during sales at Mod Cloth, Urban Outfitters and Nine West. I also sometimes buy vintage clothing or jewelry from Etsy sellers.
6. My Stylish Thoughts:
Play up your strong points! In choosing your clothing or making career decisions, don’t worry about what other people are doing and just do what works the best for you; Emphasize your strengths.
It’s easy to lose sight of your strengths and to follow a fashion trend because influencers dictate it as the hot look and not because it’s flattering for your figure. Or to feel down about your career because you wish you had a particular skill set that someone else has, but just being you and working with your God given gifts is something I’d like to reiterate to all young women.
