Shopping for the Season: My Day at TJ Maxx

November 1, 2011 | by Fajr Muhammad | Fashion, Personal Style | 42 Comments

The Fall/Winter season has officially hit the East Coast and with it comes a need for cozy tights, luxurious coats and comfortable sweaters. While I love the changing seasons and a changing wardrobe, I don’t always love shelling out a ton of money for new duds.

***Spoiler alert: There’s a giveaway at the end of the style rainbow! ***

Luckily, just in the nick of time, right before my winter shopping, I was contacted by the cool folks over at the TJ Maxx/Marshalls mega stores to do an in-store visit, check out this season’s must-have styles and learn about TJ Maxx! As a long time shopper of both stores I was over the moon to get an insider tour of the store!

My Shopping Day at TJ Maxx

I met my tour guide Mikinzie at the St. Davids Square location and we leisurely perused the store. When I shop, I never have a game plan in mind, more just meandering around to see what I can find. Mikinzie and I strolled and I got to learn some pretty cool tidbits about the company and how they offer designer clothes at such a great price point.

With over 1,600 stores between TJ Maxx and Marshalls, the stores have amazing buying power and source great deals from over 14,000 worldwide vendors. They house a dedicated buying team who keep each store stocked with over 10,000 new items each week! Talk about Power Shopping!

TJ Maxx Handbags

We started at the handbags section. TJ Maxx has an impressive and colorful selection of Italian leather handbags. This season I’m particularly in love with structured bags like this polka dotted one!

Fall Fashion Structured Handbag

TJ Maxx Fall Coats
What I was really on the look out for was a fitted, warm and retro-inspired coat! TJ Maxx had great options, I particularly loved this pink and black checkered print one from Guess! What do you think?

Fall Fashion Coats

TJ Maxx- The Runway
What I was super surprised to learn was that at several TJ Maxx locations there is an in-store boutique called “The Runway at Maxx”. The Runway carries high designer labels like Diane Von Furstenberg, Alice + Olivia and Roberto Cavalli for a fraction of the cost.

This gold sequined Emilio Pucci blazer was calling my name. “Fajr, come buy me. You will look all shiny and new”, it was whispering. Maybe next trip Pucci!

What’s fall fashion without a killer pair of boots? The Maxx has great pairs from Michael Kors, Vince Camuto and Juicy Couture.

These Victorian-inspired boots caught my eye. Sadly my size wasn’t in stock or I would have taken those chocolate brown babies home!

Colorful Leather Gloves

Fall and winter dressing is all about the finishing touches! Colorful leather gloves are a staple that you can wear season after season and what lady doesn’t love a cozy pair of patterned tights! My tights drawer will be busting at the seams this season!

Fall Tights

All in all, it was very cool to learn of all the great merchandise on the racks this season and The Runway at Maxx is going to be my new shopping home. My fall/winter wishlist is now a mile long thanks to my day trip and I’ll be back at TJ Maxx soon to pick up my must-haves.

And because I couldn’t leave this amazing shopping trip without something for you loves, leave a comment telling me what’s on your wishlist this season to win a $100 gift card to TJ Maxx/ Marshalls stores! Yes you read right, $100 dollars!

What’s on your wishlist this season?

I love that coat on you girl! It’s is very cute! I love going to TJ Max and Marshalls, especially for the shoes! The stores by me have a great selection of Jessica Simpson pumps!

Which brings me to my wishlist! While I wish I could rock cute coats and fur vests, I would melt to death down here in FL so I’ll be happy with some cute ankle booties and cozy cardigans. :)

I hope you bought that pink and black jacket because it is lovely on you!!!
That Pucci jacket is amazing!! I love their runway section.

On my Fall/Winter wish list are over the knee boots, faux fur and wool coats, and leather gloves with fun details like color or studs.

Wow, Fajr what a walk thru and tempting offer!! I didn’t know they had an in-store boutique. I just started shopping at Marshall’s & not sure how I let this place pass me + my budget by. I was in heaven – Completely. I decided to stroll in one day and didn’t leave until 3 hours later…talk about overwhelmed with goodies. Hmm!! Okay here’s my wish list.

Totally love their home goods, especially their collection of colorful cookware! I want a new saucepan and some stew pots! Also, boots, over the calf – high heel, and leather. And a few colorful blazers to go with the office outfits but with the casual wear too. Hmm, they also have great art work…okay I’ll stop.

TJMAXX is my favorite store ever! I buy about 80% of my holiday presents for people at TJMaxx every year. no joke. My wish list for myself this year includes some really stylish cognac boots, a new pair of leather gloves (the last 3 winters my gloves have come from TJMaxx), and lastly I love TJMaxx for their dresses! especially because they carry fashionable affordable dresses for us plus size girls too.

Ahhh there’s so many great things at TJ Maxx this season!! I don’t have one in my town but every time I visit my parents, I HAVE to go in! And I live down the street from Marshall’s

This season, I want to stock up on patterned tights, long socks, and big comfy sweaters!

Definitely think you should get that pink & black coat as well!

I am dying for a red trench! It doesn’t get all the cold in Texas during the winter, so a trench will be perfect.

Like I mentioned to you earlier I heart TJ Maxx Runway Section! I frequent the one here at least twice a month to see what they have. AMAZING designer deals. I’m on the hunt for a fly cape that doesn’t swallow my small frame these season along with rugged lace up boots! Fingers crossed for this giveaway!

I’ve always been a fan of TJ Maxx/Marshall’s – it can sometimes take a while to find what you want but I always end up finding some great, affordable stuff.

Two things that would make my winter (aside from no snow!) is:
    - a fit and flare orange hued coat (I’m in love with the color orange and I need to add more of it into my winter wardrobe)
    - and my birthday is in Decemeber so I want a killer dress! :)

Marshalls & TJ Maxx are gems! You must have been one of the first to go in that day, because clothes are on hangers, on racks, laid out perfectly and all bags sitting pretty on the hooks! :)
    As usual, great post.
If only I could limit myself to a few aisles at a time and not spend so much time in there. hmm….
