Designer Studio: Brittany DeShields

April 15, 2011 | by Fajr | Designers, Personal Style | 5 Comments

Meet Brittany Deshields. A talented young woman on the verge of fashion stardom. With immense drive, passion and a unique design perspective her dresses are not for the faint of heart or the wallflower. A self-taught designer, Brittany started her eponymous line in 2008 after being inspired by a college fashion show. Since then she’s started two clothing lines, opened her own studio and has moved to NY to pursue her passion for in your face style.

With stars like Rihanna in mind, Brittany’s dresses are notorious of skin revealing sheer panels and selectively placed cut outs. She says of her sexy designs,

“I want women to not be scared. It’s ok if you want to wear your back out or wear sheer. It’s taking it right to edge.”

Being entirely self taught, Brittany picked up her draping skill by paying close attention to the works of others. Not allowing a lack of formal design education get in her way, she skillfully picked up techniques by watching the people she worked with and taking the initatitive to learn her own.

Working full-time on Brittany DeShields and her Love B.Des line since last September, Brittany says of being an full fledged entrepreneur living off her craft,

“It’s definitely fulfilling. Even if I’m not making a lot of money right now, I’m on my way to becoming great. Things are taking off slowly and I’m glad. It’s a learning process but it’s good.”

Inspired by the designs of Mark Fast, Herve Leger and Alexander McQueen, Brittany DeShields is well on her way to developing a definitive style and perspective and becoming a household name.
