Hair Envy: Coveting Other People’s Coifs

February 15, 2011 | by Fajr | Beauty | 10 Comments

Every 6 months or so I go through this phase I like to call “Hair Envy”. I get down in the dumps about the capabilities of my own hair and start to endlessly search the Internet for hair inspiration. While stalking sites like Le Coil and Black Hair Media are great for the sane, I spend hours on end coveting the fabulous hair of total strangers and concocting hundreds of different styles I can try. It’s sheer madness!!!

Well, Hair Envy has officially set in and I’m fantasizing about my next weave/wig/toupee for the coming summer months. Because I’m an indecisive hussy I’ve been cataloging different hairstyles until I can narrow it down. Currently I’m obsessed with blunt bangs like Nicki Minaj, curlicious kinky curls like Corinne Bailey Rae and the fiery red of Rihanna.

Lord knows that when I sit in my hairdresser’s chair, I’ll get my same wash & curl, but a girl can dream and be hella envious of these fabulous coifs right…

Whose head of hair are you coveting?

Anyone with hair longer then my own! I’m in the middle of growing my hair out and while it’s in a “fun” (and I’m being sarcastic with it) stage, I rather have some kind of predictability with my hair again.

As a fellow indecisive hussy, I kind of want to just start wearing wigs. A) I wouldn’t have to do my damn hair every day, and B) I could have a different style/color every day. My great-great-grandmother used to wear wigs, but she called them her scalps and it terrified my mom as a young child because she actually thought her great-grandmother scalped ladies for their hair. Hahaha!

Lol, how’d I know you would pick up the “indecisive hussy” part. I’m a fan of wigs, but I would be terrified too if someone kept calling them scalps. Reminds me of the scene in Inglorious Bastards where they scalp the German soldier. Eeek! Good story though gal! :)

As a recent wig wearer I can say that it can definitely be awesome. I only wear my wig now when I’m going to events and things. When I’m just out in my neighborhood, I rock my regular hair. I miss just wearing my hair…or maybe I just need a new wig.

It’s totally my dream to have curls like those girls but I just don’t see how it could happen for me haha. I’m always so envious but I don’t take any steps to make it happen.

Ria, I’m the same way. I sported a fro for a while but couldn’t manage it. I’m still natural but I flatiron. Really coveting those beautiful curls though!

      Thanks for the comment!

I reckoned that you don’t need to have an inspiration. You can be inspired by simply looking at yourself. I just want to give you some piece of advice that if there’s no need to style up your hair then don’t anything to it. Whatever you do to it may bring of something that you alone will suffer in the future.
