Is 27 too old for Birthday Wishlists?

24 Aug

Me and birthdays don’t get along. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I had a party every birthday until I was 10 and then my parents had to go and yank the spoiled rug from under me. Things haven’t been the same since. Anticipation and anxiety around my born day always run high. How will I celebrate? Do I want to celebrate? What have I done this year that even deserves celebrating? Neurotic doesn’t begin to define this descent down the rabbit hole.

Swoone

Compound that with the fact that I’m turning 27. What’s wrong with 27 you ask? Why nothing except its age purgatory. It’s a dirty trucker rest stop between 25 and 30 and really we all know 30 is the next birthday that matters. 27 isn’t big enough to warrant a birthday bash and frankly I’d rather slink into my late 20′s with a crab leg hanging from my lip and butter bib draped around my neck.

I’m positive come Friday (27 on the 27th, God is smiling on me yall) I’ll be in a more celebratory mood. In order to improve  my birthday disposition I put together this micro birthday wishlist and if I get any manner of these things I’ll be as happy a camper as the Double Rainbow Guy.

1. DSLR: My writer/blogger/photographer trifecta is incomplete without one.
2. Alexander Skarsgard: Cause I’m a Vamp machine and I won’t work for nobody but E (hell, I’ll settle for a lock of his hair)
3. This Anna Dello Russo ensemble: To be worn on Casual Friday at the office
4. An assortment of Stripper Heels: Again to be worn in some wholly inappropriate situation
5. A Pug Named Elmo: Because Pugs are cuddly clouds from Heaven

Simple requests, non?  Oh yeah and all my family and friends to celebrate with. But when you have Alexander and Elmo who really needs friends?*

It’s Beginning to Look Alot Like Fall

22 Aug

This post was inspired by Kris Atomic

After summer’s long, hot and oppressive reign I can’t be the only person ecstatic about the return of Fall.  Full skirts, red lips, cat eyes, full figures, breasts, big hair and bouffants are making a comeback.  The 50s and 60s looks and silhouettes are taking over fashion right now and the return of pretty is right around the corner. Kris Atomic posted her delight over the new direction of style and it inspired me show the editorials that are inspiring me for Fall.

Shop Girl: nOir Jewelry

18 Aug

I like my jewelry like I like my coffee: strong, full of flavor and takes the edge off.  Noir Jewelry has the kick I love, not to mention the celeb-wearing credentials (my faves Kelis and Rihanna has been spotted in Noir). Designer and owner Leeora Catala, who has done the do at Ralph Lauren and Oscar De La Renta, launched Noir 14 years ago and it has become known for its cheeky and street style influence infused with glamour.

What do you think of Noir’s strong and tribal influenced pieces?

Boobs are making a Comeback

16 Aug

Breasts have been out of style for awhile now. They went out when the waif heroin chic look entered and 12-year old Ukrainian models became all the rage. Alas, with everything else in fashion the presence of body parts is cyclical and breasts (boobs, hooters, knockers, sweater puppies) are getting their day in the spotlight.

As one of the bosomly blessed bunch, the past few seasons have been more than frustrating. The itty bitty titty committee has ruled the roost with a monopoly on backless dresses, bustier tops and V-neck tees. Where a woman’s spillage once was seen as overexposure, a little cleavage now proudly celebrates femininity and sex appeal.

The Christina Hendricks Complex

The heated advocacy for more diverse figures on the runway and in advertising is what I’m aptly calling “The Christina Hendricks Complex.” Mad Men ushered in a new era (or just a rehashed era, but who’s keeping score) of 60s silhouettes with heavy emphasis on full bosoms, nipped-in waists and full hips. Marilyn Monroe would be so proud. Victoria Secret has a bra that amplifies your chest two sizes and after seasons of designing for smaller stature women, designers are coming on the runway to proclaim the era of the Bust Lust. The hills are alive with the mounds of music.

Bosom Buddies

Women everywhere are reclaiming their “right to a lil cleav” and I know what you’re thinking. But bust lust isn’t a hippie revival, let it all hang type of thing. It’s about celebrating the GOD given assets that have been bestowed upon you.

Wowzers! Salma, Scarlett, Kim and Christina all proudly showcase their womanly assets. There is a fine line between giving ample cleave in a fitted gown and wearing say a string bikini with double Gs. No shade Coco T, no shade.

5 Ways to Maximize your Mounds

Without making this sound like a Cosmo article here are some tips on working the tits trend

  1. Bras make all the difference: Good support means everything. There’s nothing worse than the double boob effect of a too small bra. Having the proper foundation pieces will make sure that when your girls are spilling over they won’t be spilling out.
  2. Chicken Cutlets anyone: Everyone isn’t born with a built in shelf. For my smaller chested ladies, pushup bras and the beloved chicken cutlet inserts will be your best friends.
  3. Save the A for another day: If you’re going to show a little T, there’s no need for the A. Pick one body part and stick with it.
  4. Retro Please: 1950s and 60s celebrated a woman’s figure and wiggle dresses have an emphasis on small waists, big breast and wide hips.
  5. Flaunt em and Forget em: Taking the twins out on the town can be a bit distracting but don’t let it worry you. Be confident, flaunt them and act like you’re wearing a nun’s habit. If you give them too much attention, so will everyone else.

Dress Them Puppies Up

Curves shouldn’t be a passing fad. If you have a voluptuous figure don’t be afraid to flaunt it. Pinup Girl Clothing has the works when it comes to boob flaunting styles from their Doris Top to their Retro dresses.

Are you bouncing on the Boob Train? Do you flaunt your goods or keep them covered?

Stylish Thoughts with… Agent Lover

16 Aug

Stylish Thoughts with… is a charming Inner View series that styles and profiles sartorial savants, fearless fashion mavens and interesting stylesetters the internet (and world) over. This isn’t your momma’s Q&A!

Once in the blue a style light beams from the fashion blogosphere so bright it blinds you and makes you powerless to any other forces (blogs) out there. Marie from Agent Lover is one such style force not to be reckoned with (RIE-RIE ain’t nothin’ to play with). When I e-stumbled upon Marie’s blog AgentLover.com nearly 2 years ago my Ladyboner was on full alert and hasn’t gone down since. One glance at her blog and you’re hooked on Marie’s off the wall humor, bangs of perfection and undying obsession love for John Stamos. And she has a paper doll in her likeness, HAWT! Naturally, I had to delve deeper into the stylistic musings of this resident mistress of F-U-N (and funny) style.

Background Check:

What’s your day job? Girl Friday
Where do you reside? So Cal BAYBEE

Inner View:

Describe your style in two words?

Offensively enchanting.

In Big O style, name 5 famous people, dead or alive, who would be on the guest list for your 50th birthday bash?

Anton LaVey, Richard Simmons, Mae West, Dorothy Parker, and of course John Stamos.

What is your most memorable fashion moment?

Walking around in a corn suit and high heels at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown LA. I mean, it’s only natural.

If you had to only wear one type of footwear for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

POLLYS!!!! They were a poolside stiletto that originated in the 60′s from Polly of California and are now sold by Betsey Johnson and Patricia Field. The sexiest most comfortable shoe of my life! My girlfriends and I love them!

What designer is your Fairy Style Mother and why?

Probably Betsey Johnson! She’s like the Hello Kitty of designers: Ultra-girly and always fun.

Target or Walmart?

Target! It’s my GIRLCRACK! They better clear up their recent drama though!

She was a Lisa Frank sticker! Pure Genius!

What’s your best personality trait? Your worst?

WELL… where do I begin!? JK! (o)(o) I guess the ability to see the humor in everything? It has helped me get through a lot of shit that’s for sure! Worst: I have too many ideas, too many plans and only have two hands and the mortal need for sleep.

What would be the title of your Made for TV Lifetime movie?

Bangs, Boobs and Red Lipstick: How One Girl Charmed The Pants Off The Internet

Where do you get your fly gear from (online or brick-and-mortar)?

Solestruck, Fred Flare, AMICLUB, Betsey Johnson, Remix Vintage, H&M, and for inexpensive cute trendy dresses I go to SoCal chola stores!!! Then of course the Fairfax Flea, Iguana Vintage, American Vintage and ebay for all my vintage goodies. BTW I will be selling some cute vintage online soon! Keep your eyes peeled!

What 90s TV character influenced your style the most?

You know, I’ve actually been more influenced by 90′s film. I had the same sheer blouse, baby blue argyle vest, skirt and knee high combo that Cher wore for her driving test in Clueless, sported grandpa plaid pants and ringer tees like Ethan Embry’s character in Empire Records, mimicked Drew Barrymore’s Docs and slip dresses in Mad Love, carried vintage lunchboxes like Janeane Garafolo in Reality Bites and of course there was my Nancy from The Craft days…I’m still heavily influenced by all of those films today!

If you want more Marie, and why wouldn’t you, catch her at these other online spots:

Her hats in the shape of little cakes which you can see (and buy) in her Bakery
TILTmag.com where she writes about the artists who are currently tickling her musical boner
And her All-girl crypto blog called Awesome Cryptozoology Club where they write crazy posts about the paranormal and cryptozoology. And you can follow her on Twitter.

She’s also available for any guest blogging work or style/swagger/ life/ brand consultation if you so desire…

Thanks Marie, for this Dyno-Mite inner view!
