Stylish Thoughts on… Afrika Chic

Ok so I wrote a long post on this… but it accidentally got deleted (DOH!) So I’ll sum it up in certain terms: “Ethnic” Fashion is not ethnic and it’s annoying to see cheap knockoffs of something culturally relevant. Well, that was better than the original post and a lot shorter.

Now I’m not silly enough to let something as trivial as leggings offend me. I think it is interesting however how fashion makes things acceptable in the realm of fashion that would not normally be acceptable outside of it.

  1. I think there’s nothing wrong with said patterns especially on leggings…but when you see full on costumes on the runway that are incorrect interpretations…that’s when it gets iffy….

  2. Hey Susie,

I agree. I actually like the leggings and was using them as just a reference point. I think it does get iffy when you have entire collections based on something but are misrepresentations of that culture.

    Thanks for commenting.
