Shoe-Gasm: Metallic Love

29 Aug

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rhianna wore them, Assie (oops Cassie) wore them, Angela Simmons… blah, blah, blah. If you jump on a shoe bandwagon, then you’re not a true shoe lover. Even with all the celeb cache turning my stomach, it’s hard to deny these undeniable pair of haute ass heels.

Pierre Hardy Metallic Strappy Platform Lace-Up Shoes, that was a mouthful and these shoes cost an arm and a leg, but with fierceness of this caliber does cost even count as a factor. Ok, back to reality. Yes price is important and while I can not afford these heavenly bodies, I will continue to worship at the altar of Pierre Hardy. The lithe heel, the caged toe and the metallic flames on the side. This is superhero meets gladiator meets I’m in serious love. And sadly, like most unrequited love, I’ll be doomed to eternal want.

25… Fuck I’m Old

27 Aug

Today is my date of birth, birthday, day I broke onto the scene… literally and while I hate birthdays… mine in particular, this one isn’t so bad. I’m a raging 25 years old and while that’s quarter life and all, I feel a certain serenity that I’m leaving the days of my young adulthood behind and moving forward as a GROWN ASS WOMAN.

My trip down mental memory lane has me thinking of all the people I’ve been in the past and who I ultimately will be in my future. What was I wearing 5 years ago and what will I be coveting 5 years from now. Clothes are very telling about the people we were and who we are to become. I’ve grown in leaps and bounds, style wise, growing from an “anti-fashionista” to someone who revels in individualism and unique style.

And I can only imagine what 5 years from now will bring… I’ve traded tennis shoes for stilettos, socks for frocks and diary writing for blogging.

Now for some birthday fun. While I can’t have ALL that I wish for…A Girl Can Dream (dream sequence)

Or… It’s my Blog… I’ll cry if I Want To…

My love of blogging has been renewed and while I try to refrain from getting “too personal” here, I do want Stylish Thought to be a reflection of my personal thoughts on everything, including my life. While I’m nervous to write this, I have to vent and what better my place then my own blog.

When life’s stresses and frustrations, get to be too much, I can always find refuge in fashion. Retail therapy is truly a gift from God. But what if the stress comes from within fashion. I’m not in the industry, more of an outsider/aspirer (is that word) and am working hard to be established.

I’ve been accepted to a school in the epicenter of fashion cool (London), am so excited about it, but money seems to be the downfall (isn’t it that way for most of us) This damn recession is making it tough to scourge up the necessary funds to fund my dream and putting a strain on my relationship with fashion.

While I’m praying for $20,000 (shit yeah) to fall in my lap, I’m working 12 hour days to get up the capital. No I’m not asking for any handouts, but I definitely need to vent the frustration of trying to achieve your dream. Fashion is a tough place to crack and hard work pays off (blah, blah, blah)… I guess I’m just wishing that it would pay off sooner.

But instead of wishing for a miracle, I’ll keep writing, blogging and working hard until I’m in London or you’re reading my name in a byline.

Sol-angel & The Hadley Street Dreams

25 Aug

If there’s something I love nearly as much as fashion, it’s music. Just as my personal style is eclectic and always changing, my taste in music varies and differs with the whim of my mood. Just as retro fashion is booming in the industry, so it is with music. Musicians are harking back to the old days with a more refined sound.

One such artist that is definitely making her mark is Solange Knowles. Better known for her family and older sister, Beyonce, Solange is debuting her 2nd studio album and to much praise. Titled, “Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams“, the album has been all over the internet and has currently released two singles, “I Decided” and “Sandcastle Disco”. She’s craving out her own distinctive sound that is apart of her identity as Beyonce’s sister. It’s 60′s and 70′s pop mixed in with production from today. I’m digging her style and infusion of fashion in her music videos thus far and hope her album lives up to what we’ve heard so far.

Here are the two songs and the accompanying videos. This is a great move for her and her music has a great energy.

Get the Boot

22 Aug

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Fall is coming faster than a porn star on a Saturday night. And that means upgrading your summer wardrobe, or as I like to call, “winterizing” my summer staples. This mostly consists of adding tights and cardigans to dresses and wearing tights with sandals.

However, one thing that “winterizing” won’t allow for is the absence of the Fall bootie, shoetie, peep-toe boot, whatever you want to call it. The ankle boot has gone through an evolution of sorts and has recently settled on the right ankle height and peep-toe style, which gives it versatility and an added edge. However, this is a thoughtful blog (ha!) and I have to ask the question that has been on everyone’s mind. (Or maybe just mine)

“How does a boot with a peep-toe actually function as a boot? Doesn’t having your toes out defeat the purpose of wearing a boot? Do we really even care?”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m seriously coveting Fall’s peep-toe boots, they’re stylish without being overly trendy. They’re edgy and come in endless variations and to top it of they carry the wearer through the seasons. But I must wonder is a peep-toe on a boot is utterly useless. Anywho, the “shootie” is definitely an item I’ll be acquiring. I mean a shoe that has me this stumped definitely belongs in my entourage.

Here is a little graphic to brighten your day:
